The Power of Storytelling: Inspiring Harm Reduction and Safer Choices Among Youth

"Substance use among youth is a multifaceted issue often compounded by limited awareness of its potential risks and consequences. Drawing from my own life-altering experience related to substance use behaviors, I use personal storytelling to engage, educate, and inspire young audiences. This presentation explores how storytelling can build connections, promote harm reduction, and encourage safer decision-making among youth. By sharing a near-fatal incident involving alcohol consumption and surviving against the odds, I emphasize the importance of safety measures and harm reduction strategies. My approach combines lived experience with evidence-based practices to create a relatable narrative that resonates with youth while addressing critical topics such as the unregulated drug supply and impaired judgment. This presentation aims to empower educators, community leaders, and public health advocates by showcasing how personal stories can foster meaningful dialogue and cultivate a culture of informed decision-making and resilience among young people."
