Hi, I'm Hilary. (she/her)
My journey is one of resilience, education, and advocacy. In 2013, I survived a life-altering accident that resulted in partial amputations of both feet, sparking a profound personal and professional transformation.

I hold a double Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Criminology and a Master of Science in Neuroscience, specializing in patient-oriented research and advanced neuroimaging techniques. My career has been dedicated to education, consulting, and harm reduction, with a focus on addressing the toxicity of the unregulated drug supply and challenging stigma surrounding substance use, mental health, and disabilities.

Through my consulting services, I provide expert guidance on program development, evaluation, grant applications, and policy design—helping organizations implement evidence-based and research-driven solutions. As an educator and speaker, I use my lived experience and professional expertise to deliver impactful presentations on harm reduction, the opioid crisis, and safer substance use strategies. I also offer public speaking coaching to help others share their stories effectively. Whether through consulting, education, or advocacy, my goal is to inform, empower, and create meaningful change in the communities I serve.

My Story
On February 3, 2013, my life changed forever. After a night out with friends, I took a familiar shortcut through a salt packaging facility. The snow-covered salt packages were dangerously slippery, and I lost my footing, becoming trapped between them. I remained stuck for 10–12 hours in -15°C weather before being found with a core body temperature of just 27°C.

I survived against all odds, but severe frostbite led to multiple surgeries and partial amputations of both feet. Recovery was not just physical—it was emotional and mental. I had to grieve my former self while learning to navigate a new reality.
Now, I share my story to inspire resilience, educate on safer substance use, and challenge stigma around addiction and disability. My goal is to empower others to make informed choices, prioritize safety, and find strength in adversity.
More about me..
I hold a Bachelor’s degree with Honours Specialization in Psychology and a Major in Criminology, along with a Master of Science in Neuroscience. My academic background has provided me with a solid understanding of human behavior, mental health, and the critical role of evidence-based approaches in driving change.

Professionally, I have worked across health, social care, and community-focused organizations, where I have developed educational programs centered on harm reduction. These programs aim to raise awareness about the dangers of the unregulated drug supply and advocate for safer practices. In addition to program development, I specialize in knowledge translation, communications, and stakeholder engagement, working to bridge the gap between research and its practical application in policy and community initiatives.
As an advocate, I am dedicated to reducing stigma around mental health and physical disabilities, ensuring that marginalized individuals have access to the support and resources they need. Through my work, I strive to empower others, challenge systemic barriers, and create inclusive communities. Guided by empathy, innovation, and a commitment to social impact, I am passionate about advocating for lasting, positive change in society.
